On July 21st, 2012, in Harrington, Delaware Sugarland, on their In Your Hands Tour, made a stop at the Delaware State Fair. Performing for the first time in Delaware, the jaw-dropping vocal range of Jennifer Nettles and the amazing acoustics of Kristian Bush put on a fantastic and entertaining show.
Opening Act
Before, the duo took the stage, up-and-coming country singer-songwriter, Canaan Smith got the party started. Smith was unknown to many country music fans before the show, but he left an unforgettable impression on the hearts of every person in the stands. Smith started touring with Sugarland this year, opening for them at every concert. Even though he was on his first tour, Smith rocked the stage with the confidence of a professional performer. Smith’s pretty boy charm and thick country accent got everyone ready for Sugarland.
“Love on the Inside”
The stage was dark, and everyone was quiet with anticipation. Then all of a sudden, two figures walked onto the stage. At first, you heard a drum, then the lights came on, and the crowd went wild. Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush were center stage singing “Wide Open,” a song from their latest album ‘The Incredible Machine.’ Nettles looked fabulous sporting a four month old baby bump, and amazed the crowd by jumping and dancing around the stage. Her vocals were outstanding; she sounded better in concert than she did on her Cd’s. Bush, who is never without his cowboy hat, rocked out on the guitar and got the crowd dancing on their feet.
It’s Really in Your Hands
Sugarland really involved the crowd during the concert. Before the concert, everyone could text in their vote of the song that they want to hear during the concert. All of the concert goers were told to bring a decorated poster with a song that they wanted Sugarland to perform. During the concert, a member of the band went and collected the posters, and Sugarland picked a few of them to sing. Two girls’ dreams came true when they were brought up on stage to sing, “Baby Girl,” with Jennifer Nettles.
Encore
Sugarland played many of their songs, but they chose numbers mostly from their newer albums. Some songs include:
- “Everyday America”
- “It happens”
- “Tonight”
- “One Blue Sky”
- “Little Miss”
- “Stay”
- “Find the Beat Again”
Unfortunately, the night had to end, but it went out with a bang, literally. After the final song, fireworks shot up from behind the stage, lighting the night sky with an assortment of colors. It was a surprise for the fans, and it was a fantastic way to end a memorable night. Sugarland’s first trip to Delaware was a success and enjoyed by many fans!
