In Kansas Oscar Diggs works as a magician in a traveling circus. Oscar is being attacked, but he escapes in a hot air balloon. The hot air balloon is sucked into a tornado, and Oscar is brought to the land of Oz. The witch, Theodora, thinks Oscar is the prophesied wizard to defeat the Wicked Witch. When they reach Emerald City, Oscar meets the sister of Theodora, whose name is Evanora. Evanora doesn’t believe Oscar is the one to defeat the Wicked Witch. They reach the forest and meet the so-called Wicked Witch, who is really Glinda the Good Witch. She tells him that the real wicked witch is Evanora. Evanora, however, manipulates Theodora against Oscar saying he is trying to betray them. Then, Theodora eats a magic apple that turns her into a green, wicked witch. Glinda brings Oscar to her domain, but Theodora and Evanora both enter. As both sides of good and evil fight, Glinda is taken to the town square to be executed. Oscar then makes a projection of his face, scaring the wicked witches, and freeing Glinda. Glinda knows Oscar is not a real wizard, but their friends believe he is. Oscar becomes the King of Oz, who stays behind the curtain and projector to make everyone believe he is still a powerful wizard and that he will keep his citizens safe.
Oz the Great and Powerful is a great movie to entertain whole family. It is full of adventure, magic, and suspense. This prequel to the 1939 The Wizard of Oz lacked the original musical and magical feel, but it was an entertaining. The prequel provides a certain charm for those who have seen the 1939 movie. Oz the Great and Powerful provides a back story that explained the story of the Wicked Witch and the Wizard of Oz. The characters in the new version are generally more frightening and people are more egotistical. Aside from the small let-downs, Oz the Great and Powerful was greatly entertaining and magical.
