Pirates of the Caribbean Returning to the Screen

The series debuted  in 2003, with their first big release Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, starring Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley. The film  received positive reviews and grossed $564 million worldwide. Walt Disney Pictures then revealed a trilogy was to be released. The second and third franchise titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, added Bill Nighy to the cast as the villainous Davy Jones. Critics gave At World’s End mixed reviews because its predecessor, Dead Man’s Chest, created a plot that would be difficult to follow in the third film. The fourth and most recent film, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides cut most of the original cast including Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, and Bill Nighy. The new cast, still with Johnny Depp,Geoffrey Rush, and Kevin McNally, added Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Sam Claflin, and Astrid Berges-Frisbey.

Now, Johnny Depp has been talking about a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Rumors slowly begun to surface, starting with the new directors, then the filming location, release date, and most importantly the cast and title. On May 29th, 2013, it was announced that Norwegian directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg would be taking control of the project, replacing Gore Verbinski who directed the trilogy and Rob Marshall, who directed On Stranger Tides. The release date has been changed from 2015 to 2016,but no one is sure of the month in which it will premire. Writers have said that Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Sam Claflin, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley will not return, disappointing many fans. Johnny Depp said that he would be happy to return as Captain Jack Sparrow saying “As long as we can put all the puzzle pieces together, I would most definitely consider it”
