Divergent Movie Review

On March 21, the movie Divergent hit theaters across the country. This movie was based on the first book of a popular book series by Veronica Roth. There was a lot of enthusiasm and anticipation among people to see if it would live up to the greatness of the book. Most would say that it met the standard.

One of the reasons that Divergent was such a successful movie was because of the interesting plot and the universe that it is set in. Divergent is about a world that is separated into five “factions” based on a certain characteristic. These characteristics include dauntless, erudite, amity, candor, and abnegation. After reaching a certain age, a person must decide which faction they want to live in, which in some cases means leaving one’s home and family behind. Along with that, the government seeks out “divergents”, who threaten the system of separating people based on one category. The main character, Tris, happens to be divergent and must try to blend in with her new faction (dauntless). Towards the end, a war starts in an attempt to take over the government and kill every divergent the soldiers can find.

Tris was another contributing factor towards why this movie was so great. She is a very relatable character and viewers can easily understand what she is going through. Throughout the movie, viewers get to watch her grow stronger and discover who she truly is. The movie also had a love story between Tris and another dauntless member named Four, which everyone couldn’t help but root for.

Overall, Divergent was a great movie that lived up to expectations after reading the book. The interesting universe, plotline, main character, and love story made it interesting to watch and could hold the viewers’ attention throughout the whole movie. Those who haven’t already should definitely go see Divergent!
