Ed Sheeran Plays Sold Out Show at Wells Fargo Center

British, grammy nominated, singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, came to the Wells Fargo Center on September 8th while on tour for his most recent album “X”. This was Ed’s second time performing in Philly, but his first time as the main act. In July 2013, he opened up for Taylor Swift’s Red tour, at Lincoln Financial Field, while still promoting his first album “+”. Fans lined up outside of Wells Fargo hours before the concert started. When the girls that were first in line for general admission were asked how long they had been waiting, they said that they camped out that night, just to make sure they would be right in front of the stage.

While most singers have a lot of dancers, scene changes, wardrobe changes, and back-up singers, Ed stands confidently on stage by himself, in jeans and a t-shirt, and plays guitar. The simplicity of Ed’s concerts is what makes him different from many artists on tour right now and is part of the reason why his fans love seeing him live so much. Marigrace Ferrill (‘18) said, “I’ve always thought he is one of the best performers to see live, and his new music is even better than it was before.” Despite Ed being a simple performer, his fans seem to be very extreme. Some people made light up signs and homemade costumes for the concert, and even waited beside his tour buses for three hours until after the concert was over to try to get the chance to meet him.

As Ed gets more popular with every new release he makes, it seems his success as an artist is going to take him to even greater places. It doesn’t seem unlikely that he could soon be selling out even bigger arenas and stadiums, as his songs reach even higher spots on the top 40 charts. Ed Sheeran’s ever increasing fan base of people from all ages, is sure to be looking forward to everything that is to come from him in the future; we can all expect big things.
