2014 AMA Highlights

Many people tuned in to watch the AMAs which aired on Sunday, November 23, on ABC. Many of America’s favorite celebrities were seen at the awards, including the host, Pitbull, Pitbull a Latino singer/rapper. This was his second year hosting the event. Aside from Pitbull, artists from all genres of music were seen at the event. Artists such as Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, and Luke Bryan, just to name a few.

Even the boy bands known as America’s biggest teen heartthrobs, One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer, appeared at the awards. Both bands not only performed, but accepted the awards for the categories they were nominated for. 5 Seconds of Summer performed their remix of the Romantics’ classic, “What I Like About You.” The band later accepted their award for New Artist Of The Year. One Direction performed their song, “Night Changes,” which is one of the 16 featured songs on their new album, “Four.” That night, the boys managed to take home all three awards they were nominated for: Artist Of The Year, Favorite Album – Pop/Rock, and Favorite Band, Duo or Group – Pop/Rock.

Some drama was also seen at the event during the performances of singers/songwriters, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. Swift started off the show with the performance of her song, “Blank Space,” featured on her album, ‘1989’. While Taylor performed well, the performance seemed to  dedicate too much rage towards Taylor’s past relationships. Selena Gomez performed her new single, “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” for the first time in front of an audience. Selena seemed very nervous and shaky while performing, and towards the end of the song tears could be seen on her cheeks. During the special effects, a figure of a boy appeared on the big screen, and many say the silhouette looked like Selena’s ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber. Rumor has it that Justin is the inspiration behind the song. However, despite the drama there were still many positive aspects of the show, that fans of music will remember for a long time. Some sources even claim that this year’s AMA’s were the best ones yet.
