87th Year of the Academy Awards

On Sunday, February 22, the 87th Academy Awards, or better known as the Oscars, were held at the Dolby Theater in warm and sunny Hollywood, California. The award show was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and featured many popular films that were nominated for a variety of awards.

Some winners from the night include Eddie Redmayne for best actor in a leading role, Patricia Arquette for best actress in a supporting role, and Big Hero 6 for best animated feature film. Besides awards, many performers were present at the event to bring some more entertainment to the crowd. Highlights from the performances include Tim McGraw singing “I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” Rita Ora singing “Grateful,” and Lady Gaga performing a medley from the movie The Sound of Music. The night was filled with movies, music, awards, and fun for all.

Not only was it an exciting night for those at the event, but it was also a fun experience for viewers watching at home. McKenna Rybaltowski (‘18) says that watching the Oscars was the highlight of her weekend. She states, “I look forward to watching the Oscars every year and seeing who the winners will be. The show this year kept me on the edge of my seat.” Overall, the night was very special and exciting, and viewers can’t wait to see what surprises next year’s show will bring.
