Firefly Music Festival: A Weekend to Remember

The Firefly Music Festival is one of the most loved and memorable weekends of summer, full of music and fun times – more info here. Firefly is a 4-day festival in June and nearly 100 artists perform all over the venue, which is in the Woodlands of Dover, DE. The festival offers camping ground as well, for those who want the full festival experience. Music lovers from nearly every state have attended the festival, reaching a total of almost 80,000 people in 2014. The reason so many people traveled to the event is because of the wildly famous bands that perform. In the past few years, some of the headliners were Outkast, Foo Fighters, Jack Johnson, Arctic Monkeys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Passion Pit, Imagine Dragons, Grouplove, Twenty One Pilots, The Black Keys, Vampire Weekend, and even more. Sara Mayberry ‘18, a dedicated music lover says: “Last year at Firefly was one of the best experiences I could have asked for. All of the bands were amazing, especially when it came to glowstick-raves. The best part of it besides the bands was definitely the people. It was really cool to see a whole bunch of strangers come together because they all shared one thing in common.”

Firefly has many stages all across the venue, so there is something for everyone. If you get tired of going from concert to concert, there are other activities that are just as entertaining. Aside from the Market and hot air balloon rides, the festival includes the “Hammock Hangout,” where you can relax in a forest of hammocks, “The Pathway,’ a light-filled trail through the woods, and “The Thicket,” a one of a kind concert experience hidden in the woods.

A great deal of Padua students have been eagerly awaiting the release of the lineup artists for 2015 and are planning on purchasing tickets to Firefly this June. The list of performers was just officially released on February 17th. Fans are excited to learn that Kings of Leon, The Killers, Hozier, Cage the Elephant, Walk the Moon, Odesza, Charli XCX, Foster the People, Bastille, Tove Lo and many more will be taking the stage at Firefly 2015. Although the main headliner is still being kept a secret, there are some rumors about who it may be. Apparently, the Firefly iPhone App “accidentally” released the setlist before taking it down less than an hour later. The post is said to have had Sir Paul McCartney as a headliner and many people are hopeful that he is the secret performer.

This unique concert series takes place from June 18th to the 21st. General admission prices start at $250 for 4-day passes. However, you could get lucky and receive free tickets through Twitter, Facebook, or even through local radio stations. The Firefly Music Festival is a growing success every year and it is sure to be filled with unforgettable memories!
