During the third quarter at Padua, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are going through the process of selecting their courses for the upcoming school year.  Throughout the scheduling process, students are planning ahead to make sure that they will have enough credits to graduate. They also make sure that they take the classes they are interested during their four years at Padua. To different people, the process can be either difficult or easy, even stressful or exciting. The teachers and guidance counselors assist the students as they make their decisions.

Lauren P. (’18) expressed her opinion of the scheduling process, saying, “I believe that it is stressful because you don’t know what classes you are apt to be in. It’s also hard to know what kind of student you will be next year.” Lauren wants to take several honors classes next year and continue to do well in her courses.

Ms. Penza, who works in the guidance office, has her own opinion on the process. She said that the scheduling process can be a little confusing because there are so many options. With the freshmen, she tries to show them the big picture so they can map out their junior and senior years and complete the prerequisites for their course choices. The goal is for them to successfully complete the courses they need for going to college.

I believe that scheduling is a difficult process because I want to take challenging classes next year, but I do not want to have an overload of homework and the stress that comes with it. However, I like that I have control over the courses I take and can choose classes that appeal to me. With the help of my family, teachers, and guidance counselors, I know I can select the right classes that fit my needs and interests.
