The Grudge (2020)
The Grudge is a well-known saga that started in 2004 about a Japanese curse. A new movie was added to the series recently and needless to say: It was awful. The movie is about a cop in a new town that gets assigned a case that relates to the house where the curse is and the curse gets attached to her.

For the most part, this movie was horrible. The plot didn’t make sense and everything was very predictable. The plot follows three separate stories about people who were in contact with the house. While the plot was jumping back and forth between the cop and the three other stories, I was very confused because I didn’t know what was happening. Going into the movie, I had watched the trailer and tried to guess what the movie was about. I was very excited because of the trailer, but I was so off.

There were no known actors in the movie, but I chose to give the movie the benefit of the doubt. During the film, I felt as if it was a low budget film added to the series just to make a few extra bucks. The only decent thing I have to say about this movie is the jump scares. The jump scares did get me, but they were very predictable. I was also very disappointed to see that the movie didn’t even take place in Japan, where the original Grudge movies were filmed.

The original movie had a better flowing plot that was easy to understand, was easier to pay attention to, and it also had your basic horror movie plot: set the setting/characters, explain whatever the scary thing is, characters try to defeat scary thing, add a few jumpscares, end movie. Also, the original had character development, while this did not. In this movie I didn’t even know the characters name. Horror movies are supposed to make you attached to the main character so you want them to survive, in this movie, however, I could care less.

Overall, I recommend not seeing this movie, unless you want to be very disappointed and dissatisfied, especially if you follow the previous Grudge movies. It was a huge waste of time and it would be better off watching the 2004 film and staying home.
