5 Questions With Margaret Achenbach

5+Questions+With+Margaret+Achenbach

I recently had the opportunity to sit down and ask Senior, Margaret Achenbach, a few questions about her college process and her plans for the future. These are her responses:

  1. Where did you apply? How did you choose what schools you wanted to apply to?
I applied to Fordham, Vanderbilt, Ithaca, NYU, Hofstra, Belmont, and Temple. I looked at what schools had the best and most realistic music programs for me and where I would have the best opportunities location wise.
  2. What school is your top choice and why?
Belmont is my top because it has a really unique music program unlike any other schools. It also has an integrated program for my major, which is nice because they have a commercial music school as well as classical. I also love the location and the way the building is built.
  3. What are you majoring in? How did you choose that?
I’m majoring in music education because it’s the one thing I’ve always had a natural inclination to and the great music programs I’ve been a part of in high school also influenced me, so I knew I wanted to do that someday.
  4. What courses will you take to fit your major?
The classes I took at Padua to ready me for my career are music theory, choir, psychology, and I also take voice lessons on the side. At college, I’ll need to work on my keyboard skills, more music theory, music history, continue my voice lessons, and I’ll have to be proficient in one instrument per family of instruments, such as classical guitar and percussion. Perhaps services like Gitarre spielen lernen would be of great help. I would also take education courses and I’d be a student teacher for two years before graduation.
  5. What are your plans for after you graduate?
I plan on graduating with a masters and then start teaching. I plan on also going back to school to get my doctorate. I’d like to think that I’d be in a band at that point too.
