On Saturday, November 17, Padua Academy held its first ever Hunger Banquet. It was a night to spend time with friends and family and support UrbanPromise. It was a fun night spent raising awareness about poverty and hunger.
This year’s Hunger Banquet featured speakers, activities, and a dinner and dessert buffet. While enjoying their dinners and desserts, families and friends gathered together to celebrate what we have and to support UrbanPromise. UrbanPromise is a local, nonprofit organization and all of the profits earned at the Hunger Banquet were given to their school’s food program. Jada Stephens says, “I have a cousin who goes to UrbanPromise. I thought that the Hunger Banquet was a great way to support their program and raise money. I feel that everyone had a great time while supporting a good cause.” A guest speaker came and spoke about hunger and poverty in our own communities and how some lives are affected by poverty. Everyone learned a little more about her local communities and how many people throughout the world suffer from poverty and not being able to provide for their families.
The Hunger Banquet had a great turnout this year. News about poverty and hunger was spread in hopes of making a difference in the world. Families and friends were able to be educated about their community while spending quality time together and having a great time.
