Service with Faithful Friends

Padua students are required to do service every year. They can volunteer with many different organizations, from serving food at soup kitchens to helping underprivileged children with their homework. Emily Rachiele (’18) plans to volunteer with an organization in Wilmington, Delaware, called Faithful Friends. According to Emily, “Faithful Friends is a fairly well known non-profit, non-kill organization that shelters animals in need. They mostly take care of cats and dogs and try to find them new homes.” It is important that Padua students reach out to other people in the community, but caring for “man’s best friend” is just as significant.

Emily discovered Faithful Friends through a friend who thought that working with the organization was a great way for them to complete their service hours. Emily believes that volunteering with Faithful Friends will work well for her, saying, “The shelter requires you to volunteer about 8 hours a month, but you decide when you want to do those 8 hours. I thought this was really good for me since I could make it work with my schedule.” Emily is signed up for “cat cuddling,” which, she explains, “is basically an opportunity where you care for the cats they have at the shelter by feeding them, cleaning their cages, and giving them the love that they need.” Emily is really excited to help out at the shelter, and she thinks it will be a great experience.
