In mid-November, Padua Academy’s Winter Track team started its season. Tryouts consisted of two weeks. Pre-season is a crucial time for Winter Track. The coaches’ goal is to get the runners in shape for the tough workload that awaits to ensure that each runner is physically prepared in order to avoid possible injuries. Head coach Marnie Guinta and assistant coach Mr. Taylor have high expectations for the season ahead: “We would like to have a well rounded team with sprints, distance, jumps and throws. Our goal is to fill the spots and have a great team overall,” says coach Marnie.
The girls and coaches were working up to their first meet on December 4th at University of Delaware’s Field House, which was yesterday. The team competed very well, returning home with first place. Throughout the season, the track team will participate in 12 meets; some of which will take place at Lehigh, University of Delaware and other facilities. The coaches are excited to see what else is to come this season with all the old talent returning to the team and the new talent of the freshman. Senior returning members, such as Alana Whitmarsh and Alexis Ryan, were anxious to get started running their fourth and final year of winter track. Alexis states,“I’m so excited for my senior year of indoor track. I can not believe the last the last season is already here. The team is stacked with talented runners this year so we are hoping for a good turnout in the state meet this February.”
Alana responds with, “I hope for my relays to be successful because my best friend Garcelle is doing indoor for the first time and she is going to be really good and were going to clean up the track.” The team seems well equipped not only physically, but also mentally in their positive remarks regarding the future of the team. With these great acclamations, the team holds high hopes for a successful season ahead.
