Super Bowl XLVII

On Sunday February 2, the Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. The Super Bowl, held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, featured the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos. Seahawks Quarterback Russell Wilson was prepared to play against the experienced quarterback Peyton Manning. Both teams went into the game hoping for a win but only one team could take the trophy. At the end of the game, the Seahawks were declared champions with a 43-8 blowout win.

The Seahawks went into the Super Bowl labeled as the team whose only chance at winning would rely heavily on their defensive action. However, Seattle’s offense was evident throughout the entire game. Scoring in each quarter of the game, Seattle posted an impressive score of 43. Their defense was alive and well and was able to keep Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos on their toes with a score of 8. A recap by the NFL recalls that the Seahawks had, “masterful defense, the NFL’s stingiest, [and] never let the five-time MVP get going, disarming the highest-scoring offense in league history.” Both the defense and offense of the Seahawks contributed to their win- a win in a game of one of the highest- and most lopsided- scores in NFL history.

Advertised as a game between one of the best offensive teams in the league and one of the best defensive teams, the game was perceived to be an exciting one; but, the end result was not the most exciting for everybody. Junior Colleen Yerger commented on how she thought that, “the score was really surprising, especially because it wasn’t a close game. I felt like people were disappointed because it wasn’t a very exciting or close game.” Colleen also mentioned that while she was rooting for the Seahawks, she didn’t stay interested in the game for very long, due to the score.
