Camden Yards

The view from the open-air press box captures Camden Yards, the Warehouse, as well as views of the city of Baltimore.

“Incoming!” shouts one of the sports reporters in the lower press room, and all of the laptops are quickly closed and moved to protection. This is – believe it or not – a common scenario when foul balls are tipped backwards into the room. The lower press room is just one of the many special areas in the Camden Yards Ballpark. This room is where the outside press sources are seated during the games. Directly above, the Communications Control Room (upper press room) is located. The Control Room is where the Orioles communications directors work during the game. It is compact with computers, cameras, and wires, which all work to keep the visual display at its best during the baseball games. Both rooms, located right behind home plate, look out over the bright green field. On game days, the field will most likely be covered with ballpark workers and reel mowers preparing the grass. “The field is actually real grass, not turf,” says ballpark tour guide, Mike. Mike is very proud of his favorite team’s home, and works every day to show others just how great it is. The ballpark is equipped with all of the newest technology, but still holds true to its old fashioned reputation. Most stadiums are designed in a way that let their fans enter behind home plate. However, Camden Yards gives Orioles fans the “outfield experience.” The club level of the ballpark is designed like a hotel lobby, and decorated with countless pieces of memorabilia. Whether a fan holds season tickets and watches from the VIP lounge, or he/she spectates from one of the outfield standing room only areas, each game at Camden Yards is bound to create an unforgettable memory in every baseball fan’s mind.
