On Friday, October 24, Padua’s cross country team competed in the Catholic Conference Championships, which is the first championship of the season. The girls have been training since the summer for a championship season.  Padua has won this meet every year since 2011. The student athletes traveled only a few miles away from Padua to Bellevue State Park, competing against all the Catholic schools in Delaware including, St. Mark’s, Ursuline, and St. Elizabeth’s. The Padua runners were challenged to work as a team to win the meet. Varsity runner, Hannah Apostolico (‘17), felt that the race went well: “Coach Marnie gave us times to hit for our miles and this strategy definitely gave people a different way to run.” In the Varsity race, seven out of ten of the top ten finishers were from Padua. In addition to the Varsity scoring 19 points, JV also finished first with a perfect score of 15. “As a team we did amazing and I’m so proud of all of us!” Hannah said.

This championship was the first of several: this weekend the team travels to Winterthur to race against all schools in New Castle County. Following the New Castle County championship meet, Varsity will be competing at White Clay Creek for the State Champion title. The final couple weeks of the cross country season is looking bright for the runners of Padua.
