Padua’s Indoor Track Team Claims the State Title

On Saturday, February 7, Padua’s indoor track team competed in the DIAA Indoor Championships. This event took place at Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Maryland, and Padua walked away with the state title by a landslide. The team competed in a number of events including relays as well as individual events. Padua ended up with a team score of 192.5, beating the runner up, Smyrna, with a score of 74, by almost 119 points.

Padua’s runners won most of the races they competed in. They took the gold in the 55-meter dash, the 200 and 400 meter dash, the 1600 meter, the 4×200 meter relay, the 4×400 meter relay, the 4×800 meter relay, and long jump. It was a very successful day for Padua.

Besides the running aspect of the meet, it was also a great experience for runners who did not compete. A bus took the members of the team who were not running in any races to the meet which allowed them to support and cheer on their teammates. Caroline Melia (‘18), a member of the team who did not compete at the DIAA Indoor Championships says that she still had a great time, even though she did not run. She states, “The meet was an exciting experience and I enjoyed supporting my teammates”. Padua’s track team did a great job and made their teammates and school proud.
