Powerful Player: Emily Jarome

Emily Jarome is a well known volleyball player in the state of Delaware. She played on Holy Angels’ CYO team from fifth grade to seventh grade, then on Sanford School’s high school varsity team in eighth grade. Emily came to Padua because of “Padua’s previous volleyball records” and has been playing on their varsity team since. Coach DiSabatino, Padua’s volleyball coach of eleven years, enjoys coaching Emily saying “not only is she a good volleyball player, but she is a great kid and she’s pretty funny and we have a good time.”  Emily also plays volleyball for Brandywine Club Volleyball on their Bobcats seventeen and under team. Emily was also an all-star cheerleader when she was younger and filled in for Padua’s  competition cheerleading team last year, helping them win a national title. She no longer cheers because her main focuses are her studies and volleyball.

Emily is always trying to better herself for her team. She practices Monday through Friday (sometimes even Saturdays) for Padua Varsity. In addition, she practices twice a week with three day tournaments over the weekend for her club team. Not only does she have volleyball almost everyday but she also meets with her personal trainer twice a week during the school year and multiple times a week during the summer.

Emily focuses on her studies when she isn’t playing volleyball but during her free time she continues to play even more volleyball. Aside from her school and club teams, she also enjoys playing grass and beach volleyball. She is very passionate about her studies, when asked about playing in college she answered “It’s difficult to tell now, I most likely will be but, I don’t want to get caught up in volleyball so much that I can’t focus on my college studies.” Coach Disabatino also commented on her dedication to her academics saying “As a coach and teacher, I believe that she gets good grades”.

According to Coach DiSabatino, “Emily is a huge asset to the team. If you have been to any of our volleyball games, you obviously can see her sheer power when she attacks the ball, but she has very good court awareness. She is a great team leader, fits in well with the team, brings a lot of different aspects to the court,” and “is an all around great player.”
