Recently, the National Honors Society held its annual Blood Drive. Sixty-nine Padua students and faculty voluntarily gave blood to the Delaware Blood Bank. Studentsbwho donated could be seen dressed down and sporting “Give Blood, Save a Life.” These
students scheduled appointments during the day where they went to the Gym and had their bloodbtaken by nurses. Our students really enjoy giving back in this way.
Brooke Needham (’12)bsaid, “I enjoyed giving blood because it made feel good about myself. I felt like I was makingba difference. And everyone loves getting a free T-shirt!” The National Honors Society loves hosting this function every year. Students volunteer their time to supervise the donors. They sit with the donors and make sure they are feeling all right. They provide them with snacks and water. It is their responsibility to make sure the donors are not feeling light headed. They also help set-up and clean-up the area set aside for the Blood Drive.
This year the NHS senior members in charge of the Blood Drive were Kathryn Palena and Megan Lang. These students advertised the Blood Drive and organized the registration. Overall the 2011 Blood Drive was a huge success! Whether donating or volunteering, it was amazing how the Padua students came together to help others. These students have truly “saved lives.” Padua hopes to continue to increase in donors and volunteers at next year’s annual Blood Drive.
