Student Council Speeches

Student+Council+Speeches

It is getting to be the end of the 2013-2014 school year at Padua Academy, and this means time for the new student council members to be elected for the 2014-2015 school year.  On Tuesday May 6, 2014, the juniors who were running for executive officers gave their speeches.  The girls that ran were, Claire Conway, Erin Flynn, Emily Thiemann, Gabby DelliCompagni, Katie Moloney, Dana Caracci, Amy Walsh, Emily Hayes, Isabel DiGivanni, Mary Gallo, Lauren Davis, Caitlin Harris, and Amber DiSanto.  Many of them gave reasons on why you should pick them, what they would do if they were elected, and about how much they wanted to make next year memorable.

Katie Moloney talked about when she transferred to Padua sophomore year, and how she felt like the odd girl out, but all of her Padua sister were very welcoming and it did not take her very long to find her spot.  Katie also said, “That is how I want you guys to feel. Like you are always welcome, and that is how I want the incoming freshman to feel as well.”

Many girls also talked about leadership.  Amber DiSanto talked about how she would be a good leader and also about how she would be the best executive officer for the school.  Mary Gallo talked about how she wasn’t really sure what to say at first, but she asked her dad and he simply said, “do not screw up.”  Mary talked about the things she would do next year and how she would not only take her own ideas, but listen to everyone else’s as well.

Isabel DiGiovanni talked about her time management.  She plays different sports, but still keeps up with her school work as well.  Isabel also added that she knew that in order to be a good executive, she knew she had to manage her time well, and that was a good quality that she had.  Another thing that Isabel, along with Lauren Davis, talked about was how all students would have a voice, and how they wanted to make next year an unforgettable year. Dana Caracci also discussed that if she was elected she would give the students of Padua a chance to be heard, and not just the student council members. Caitlin Harris also added that she would would make next year the most memorable.

Al ot of girls also talked about their previous years at Padua, including how they felt when they started at Padua. Amy Walsh, Emily Hayes and Claire Conway both talked about how they were really nervous freshman year, but they realized that all of the girls at Padua had such a close relationship to each other, so it did not take them long to find out where they belonged.  Emily Thiemann talked about how she was always afraid to do things, and always allowed fear get the best of her, but when some of her classmates told her that she should run for student council, she thought about it, and realized that this time she didn’t want fear to get in the way. Along with that Emily also talked about overcoming fears, and also discussed some of her strengths and weaknesses.

Gabby DelliCompagni and Erin Flynn talked about their family along with ways they would improve Padua next year. Gabby also included some activities she does, like sports and volunteering.  It was very nerve racking for the girls to be up on the stage talking in front of most of the school, but they all did it and did a great job.  The next day Padua Academy got to vote, and found out that Isabelle DiGiovanni was the president, and the four executive officers were Lauren Davis, Catherine (Katie) Moloney, Erin Flynn,  and Claire Conway.
