Women’s Achievement Award Dinner

Women’s Achievement Award Dinner

On April 10 at the Chase Center down at Wilmington Riverfront, Padua Academy hosted the fifth Annual Women’s Achievement Dinner.  The dinner seeks to recognize the exceptional accomplishments of women who lead lives of faith, service, leadership, and entrepreneurial innovation.  This year, they recognized the phenomenal story of Leigh Anne Tuohy.  The movie The Blind Side is based off Tuohy’s story.  Mrs. Tuohy was portrayed by Sandra Bullock.  Leigh Anne Tuohy was invited to speak at the dinner.  Leigh Anne Tuohy asked the guests to get out of their “comfort zone,” stating, “Nothing exciting happens in your comfort zone.”  Leigh Anne Tuohy donated a $1,000 at the end of the night and encouraged other to donate as well.

The event also announced the creation of a Scholarship Fund in the name of Padua’s Founder, Fr. Roberto Balducelli. The scholarship will be for an incoming freshman, based on need, who might not otherwise be able to attend Padua.  Mrs. Tuohy explained to guests that even the smallest things can make a difference to someone.  This scholarship will change a freshman’s life.  Mr. Barfield, a geometry teacher at Padua Academy, attended the Women’s Achievement Dinner.  Referring to the new scholarship, he stated, “Father Roberto physically built this school with Brother Mike.  He wass the soul of the school.”
