Maddie M. is an active and studious freshman at Padua Academy. She is a committed member of the Newport Rowing Club and a First Honors student. Maddie first discovered her love for crew as she joined the sport in 8th grade, and recalls that decision as one of the best choices of her life. Although few people recognize crew as a regular high school sport, Maddie comments, “Crew is definitely an underrated sport, but it is a great way to exercise and spend time. It also looks good on a college application!” Maddie’s role model happens to be someone she met through rowing, Julia Baumel. Julia is now a student at Harvard, but in high school, she developed a program that benefits children in Africa. Julia also is extremely successful in crew. Maddie admires Julia’s dedication, in addition to her participation in crew, and aspires to achieve similar athletic and scholastic accomplishments. Maddie also recently began swimming on the Padua Swim Team.

When Maddie isn’t in the water, she is often studying for Biology, her favorite class; Maddie hopes to one day become a scientist. Maddie has lived in Pennsylvania for most of her life with her two younger brothers. Maddie has been backpacking across Europe with her family, stopping along the way at Paris, Rome, and Belgium. In her free time, she enjoys watching TV shows such as House, The Vampire Diaries, and Scandal. Maddie’s favorite musical artists are Walk the Moon, Pentatonix, and any peppy exercise music. It is clear that Maddie M. is a star student-athlete and will make the most of her time at Padua Academy.
