Last week at Padua Academy was Blue Gold Week. Blue Gold is a Delaware organization that focuses on benefiting kids with disabilities. The organization has many benefits throughout the year, including the Reindeer Run, Bingo Night, and Blue Gold Prom. This week led up to one of the biggest events of the year, Blue Gold Bingo.

During Blue Gold Week, there were fundraisers leading up to Bingo Night. Students and faculty could buy Blue Gold merchandise, which could be worn on the dress down Friday. Students could also pay $2 for the dress down, which still was benefiting Blue Gold. Students could also order Berri Yummi frozen yogurt and receive it during lunch on Wednesday. During lunch and after school Friday, Blue Gold held a bake sale with baked goods donated by members of the organization.

The final fundraiser for Blue Gold Week was Penny Wars. Each grade had a container that they wanted to fill completely with pennies. Putting silver coins in a container would subtract from that grade’s overall total. During lunches, grades got to “sabotage” other grades with these bills or silver coins while still donating to a good cause.

Bingo Night was a success, with many people and about 20 raffle baskets. Everyone seemed to have a blast, as Freshman Julianna Testa explains, “Blue Gold bingo was a really fun event; not only did they have the bingo games but we got to see little performances in between the games that were really cool.” Brother Mike even made an appearance as he called out the numbers. Blue Gold will use the money earned to better their organization and to fund future events
