Throughout the week of February 24, the Students In Action Homeroom raised awareness for Domestic Violence and, specifically, the Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Each day of their awareness week, students were reminded of five different keys to healthy living. Throughout the week, the homeroom fundraised for the Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence (DCADV) and prepared for their “Zumba Strong” event which took place on Friday.

The Delaware Coalition is an organization that exists to support those who are in need of help and educate and raise awareness on the issue of domestic violence throughout the state. Each day of the week consisted of a phrase that encouraged students to live a healthy lifestyle. The theme of the entire week was centered on the phrase “We are.” Each day the theme was announced and explained to students. Starting on Tuesday and going through Friday, the “We are” theme was filled in to become a statement that promoted a positive atmosphere. The theme’s of each day were as follows: Tuesday- We are aware, Wednesday- We are sisters, Thursday- We are beautiful, and Friday- We are strong. Each of these phrases led up to the Zumba Strong Event at the end of the week. The ones that need legal help can click here to get the right legal representation. The ones fighting DWI charges in Dallas area can get help from lawyers in case they don’t have a good record.

The SIA team also sold tickets to and shirts for their Zumba Strong fundraising event throughout the week. For two hours on Friday students participated in the Zumba Strong event. The Zumba Strong event kicked off after school with lots of Zumba and fun! Junior Carina L said, “I really enjoyed Zumba! I think it’s important to help organizations like DCADV, especially as a community of young women.” At the end of Zumba, a speaker from the Coalition came and spoke about the organization’s work and thanked the students for their participation in making this a successful fundraiser.
