The opening weekend of Salesianum School Theater’s production of “The Producers” made one thing clear: this show is a hit. Sallies’ auditorium was packed each night as word spread that this show was not one to miss. If you have yet to see it, take my advice and get there!
Salesianum’s Nick Castillo and Brett Smith led the cast as Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom, Broadway producers attempting to rake in the millions by producing Broadway’s biggest flop. Their witty banter and tireless antics were endlessly entertaining. They were joined by female lead, Padua’s very own Emily Freebery as Ulla. Ulla is a Swedish blonde with a big voice who captures the hearts of Max and Leo with her musical talent, not to mention her pleasing figure. Another lead, Padua senior Brenda Crowley, was a true show-stopper in the role of Hold Me-Touch Me: a raunchy old lady looking to have a “good time” with Max. Her hijinks had the audience falling out of their seats and laughing until they cried. This was Brenda’s only weekend as Hold Me-Touch Me, as she shares the role with another Padua senior, Sarah O’Connell. If you missed Brenda, don’t make the same mistake twice, and be sure to catch Sarah this weekend. Knowing Sarah’s infamous humor, you won’t be disappointed.
Other talented Padua girls featured in the show included Margo Delaney, who doubled as an Usherette and the Dance Captain, and seniors Megan Lang, Mikella Schmitt, and Kylie Kinsella. Countless of our other Padua sisters were featured in the cast, pitt band, and stage crew.
This show has it all: Nazi music, dancing pigeons, bawdy old ladies, cross-dressing directors, and a flamboyant Hitler! To see how all of the craziness turns out, make sure you go this Friday or Saturday to see the Salesianum School Theater’s funniest show yet: “The Producers.”
