Toes in the Sand

As summer approaches, people’s thoughts are drifting away to spending their vacation at the beach. Here, in Delaware, there are many popular beaches that attract people from around the Delmarva Peninsula and beyond. Beaches are popular summer destinations because they offer many fun activities for families. Some of these activities include swimming and boogie boarding in the water, collecting seashells and building sand sculptures, and shopping and dining on the boardwalk.

A few students explain which beaches they will be visiting in Delaware and along the East Coast. Lauren Pala (’18) says, “I’m going to Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, and Boca Raton in Florida. There I will tan, relax, shop, and swim.” Ally Poppiti (’18) says that she will be going to Tower Beach in Delaware. “I’m the one who’s always in the water swimming,” Ally remarks. She is also going to Rehoboth Beach because she will be a bridesmaid in a wedding there. Juli Stape (’18) exclaims, “I am going to a beach in Maine. I don’t know what our plans are yet, but my grandfather suggested that we go horseback riding. We may also be going swimming.”

It’s a great time to make plans for the beach! Taking a day trip is a good way to enjoy the beach without booking a hotel or renting a house, while staying a week at the beach provides time to explore the area. However you do it, you’re sure to make memories with family and friends.
