The 1975 experience

The+1975+experience

On December 5th, everyone was lined up waiting outside the Fillmore in the bitter cold. The cold didn’t phase anyone, especially me. As I waited outside, with another three and a half hours left before doors open, the only thing on my mind was my anticipation to see my favorite band, the 1975. When the doors opened, the anticipation and excitement rose within me. We rushed inside, hoping to be front row, with good seats and a good view of the stage. I waited and waited for the opening act to come on.

As soon as the lights went down and the opening act came on, you felt the push of the crowd from those who wanted to get closer to the stage. The pushing was a consistent feeling throughout the opening act, but ended up being a benefit to me, as I was able to get closer to the stage. The opening act, Swim Deep, an indie pop band from Birmingham, England, sang some of their best songs, full of great lyrics and melodies.

The shift from the opening act to the main act was intense. As soon as the 1975 came on stage, the crowd went insane, and so did the pushing. As I got pushed forward and was basically on top of another person, Matt Healy, the lead singer, came on stage and sang their newest release, “Love Me”. The crowd went insane. Throughout the concert they played some of their most well-known songs, along with introducing the crowd to their new songs off of their upcoming album. Then my favorite song, Robbers was played and in my opinion was the second best one of the night.

When the 1975 left the stage, everything went black, but the screaming and desire for more music was still there. Then all of a sudden, the lights came back on and the screaming got even louder. Then the band came back on stage and played three encore songs. They closed the night with an encore filled of 3 songs, leaving the crowd satisfied.

In my opinion the concert was even better than the last one I attended a year ago in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. My experience was one I will never forget.
