Summer Fun

Warm weather, beach days, sleeping in are some of the endless the reasons why people love summer. With no school, little homework, and lots of free time, summer has a million possibilities.

One thing many students enjoy doing is going on vacation. Some stay local, sticking to the Delaware or New Jersey beaches, while others go off to Europe or the Caribbean. Trips to Disney and New York are popular, as well. The most popular summer getaway, however, is probably the beach. Delaware and New Jersey beaches get a lot of attention in the hot July and August weather. Travel, whether local or international, is a great way to take a break from the sometimes monotonous Delaware days.

Some students like to earn money by getting a summer job. Fast food joints like McDonald’s and Rita’s Water Ice routinely hire high schoolers. Other girls babysit or work at local pools as lifeguards. Summer jobs are a great way to earn money and have fun.

Concerts are a great summer activity, as well. Artists like 5 Seconds of Summer, Fall Out Boy, and Kendrick Lamar are coming to local cities, including Philadelphia and Baltimore. Padua freshman Frankie Knoll is going to an All Time Low concert in Philadelphia at the end of May. Frankie says, “I’m super excited because they’re one of my favorite bands and I hear they’re awesome live.” Concerts can be a lot of fun, and are a great way to spend the money you earn at your summer job.

Often, it’s nice to just spend lazy summer days at home with air conditioning and Netflix, as well. Many students will spend their months off catching up on shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and One Tree Hill. New movies, such as Pitch Perfect 2, Inside Out, and Paper Towns, are expected to make a lot of money in the box office this summer—another great activity for the hottest afternoons.

Summer is less than a month away, and with great friends, awesome vacations, and free hours, it’s sure to be a fun and memorable one.
