On Friday May 19th and Saturday May 20th Padua’s Outdoor Track and Field Team competed in DIAA State Championship Meet. The team traveled to Dover High School for the weekend’s competitions. The first event, the 4 by 800m relay, began at 2:30 on Friday afternoon. Padua’s track team started the day on a high note, taking second place in the relay (Alana Whitmarsh ’12, Jacki D’Amico’14 Jill Ciritella ’15, and Angie Spadaccini ’14).
Padua continued with these outstanding performances over the course of the next two days. The track team proved to have more depth in all areas than any of the competition, scoring in all but three events. Some noteworthy performances include Ashley Muschiatti claiming the state title in both shot put and discus. Maiya Dendy and Haley Lucey also took first place in the 200m and 300m hurdles respectively. Alana Whitmarsh, Natalie Kowalski, and Angie Spadaccini also scored in several events. Through the hard effort and team work the Padua Track and Field team won the state championship with 139 points, the second highest point total ever scored in the state meet. This was the track team’s 13th State Championship, and Padua’s first state championship in four years. Congratulations to all the athletes for their outstanding performance and State Championship win.
