After a long and exciting March Madness Tournament, the NCAA Basketball Championship was finally played last night. Number one seed Louisville and number four seed Michigan battled it out in what was one of the best NCAA championship games yet. The game was already predicted to be a close one, the two teams both having strong lineups.
Louisville’s Peyton Siva and Russ Smith were expected to play a strong game for the Cardinals. Louisville also had an incentive to win for their fallen teammate Kevin Ware, who earlier in the tournament suffered a gruesome compound break in his lower leg. Michigan had a great starting lineup as well, with the Naismith’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, Trey Burke, as point guard. Burke is infamous for making deep three point shots and was expected to carry the team through the game.
The game began with the Cardinals trailing the Wolverines, with Michigan’s break out star, Spike Albrecht, scoring one three after another. In the last couple minutes of the first half however, Louisville’s Luke Hancock answered Albrecht’s three pointers, scoring two of his own to put the team back in the game and bring the deficit to a one point difference.
In the second half, Louisville played stronger and from there the lead went back and forth, with both teams making great plays. Louisville held the lead in the last few minutes of the game, but Michigan came close to taking it, coming within two points of the Cardinal’s lead. However after sending Louisville to the foul line a few times in the last minute, Louisville came out with a six point win, the score 82-76. The Cardinal’s celebrated the win and ceremonially cut the net after receiving their trophy. After a close and well played game from both teams, the NCAA tournament came to an end.
