Senior Night

Senior Night

On October 17, 2013, the Seniors on the Padua’s volleyball team celebrated their last year together as a team.  The juniors decorated the gym with posters, spelled their names out of poster board, put pictures on the wall, and placed balloons and streamers on the bleachers.  The juniors really helped make this night special for the seniors.  The seven seniors, Sarah C., Caroline G., Darby M., Ashley M., Jen B., Ally J., and Ali F., celebrated with a big win against Wilmington Friends School.

The Juniors were a huge part of making this night happen.  They collected money from all of the team members and bought supplies to decorate the gym, and also bought each senior and senior parent a yellow rose.  They also bought roses for the seniors on the Friends team.  The juniors also purchased different gifts for each of the seniors, such as towels, a custom blanket, and a party after the game.  Junior, Caitlin H., was asked about the planning behind this night. Caitlin stated, “We started planning in September. We planned who was going to make which poster.  We also figured out which blanket each senior would get.  On Senior night all of the juniors and our parents collected all of the pictures of the seniors, and displayed them for all of the seniors.”

The seniors’ names were called and were presented with their flowers.  This was one of their many yellow roses that they received at Padua, marking yet another milestone.  The starting lineup consisted of six out of seven seniors, leaving Ali F. to rotate in on the back row for Darby M.  They scored the first point of the game, and went on from there winning all three games against Friends.  After their win, they celebrated in the cafeteria with cake and other desserts.

At this time, they were presented with their gifts from the team.  Ali Frey reflected about how she felt on this night, knowing that it was one of the last games she would be playing. Ali stated, “It honestly did not hit until it was over. I knew that the night was special and everything but once the game was over it really hit me that this is my last Padua season ever and its almost over. It was one of the saddest nights ever but one of the greatest because of the celebration and support from everyone before during and after the game!” Darby Maxwell was asked about what she was going to miss most about the team after this year. ” Darby said, “I’m going to miss the family that we all have become. I honestly probably wouldn’t be friends with some of the girls on the team if it wasn’t for volleyball. I wouldn’t be so close with all of the girls and i am definitely going to miss the team dinners and the inside jokes and the silly team games we play before every game. I’m just going to miss the family we’ve become. The Seniors have definitely left an impression on Padua and the Padua Academy volleyball team.
