Laccrosse

Lacrosse is non-contact game played by 12 players. The positions include a goalkeeper, five attackers, and six defenders. The ball is placed between two horizontally held sticks at the center of the field. At the sound of the whistle, the ball is launched into the air as the sticks are pulled up and away. A draw is used to start each half and after each goal, and always taking place at the center of the field. The object of the game is to shoot the ball into the opponent’s goal. The team scoring the most goals wins. The games are 50 minutes long, each half being 25 minutes.

This year is the first year that Padua is offering lacrosse. Amber Harmon and Erin McBride coach the Padua lacrosse team. The girls on Padua’s lacrosse team are hardworking and focused all season. Freshman, Cate Zwiercan says, “I tried out because I wanted to try something new and it looked like a lot of fun. I like the competitiveness of the game and all the girls are really nice, so I’m making a lot of new friends.” Practices are Monday-Wednesday from 3p.m. to 5p.m. Padua students are excited to play in their first season on the new lacrosse team.
