Winter Sports Update

Winter+Sports+Update

So far, the Padua Pandas have had overall successful seasons in their winter sports which consist of indoor track, basketball, competitive cheerleading, and swimming. The basketball team is about halfway through their season currently with a 8-3 record. Coach Brown, Padua’s athletic director, noted that Padua Junior, Mackenzie Scully, has demonstrated improved skills in basketball as she moved up from playing on the JV team last year to starting almost all games this year.

Nearing the end of their season, Padua’s indoor track team had a successful state meet on February 7th. With talented new freshmen, such as Lydia Olivere and Victoria Steinhoff, as well as returning seniors, such as Maiya Dendy and Emily Paolucci, the team was able to win another state championship. Indoor track meets still will continue until the spring track season begins.

Competitive cheerleading had their first competition on February 1st. Varsity received 2nd place in their division, a great start to the season. Although the team is recovering from multiple injuries, Coach Brown still has a confident outlook that the team will perform well in the future.

The Padua swim team is experiencing their first season with new coach, Jess Jamison. “Our new coaches are big on support and sportsmanship and are always helping us improve our racing whether if its a tip on diving in the pool and working with us at practices on our flip turns,” explained Kelly Jeker, Padua Junior. In addition to the new coaching staff, the schedule proves to be more concrete than previous years as the team now has the resources to practice 5 days a week. The swim team’s most recent meet was on February 3rd at Saint Andrew’s School.

Dance team, although technically not considered an official Padua sport, has greatly improved, according to Coach Brown. “This is one of the best years I have seen in my three years of being here,” Coach Brown said as she praised the team for their more cohesive techniques.
