2015 World Series: Royals Vs. Mets

Can you believe it? It seems like just a few short weeks ago that all of the Major League Baseball teams were beginning to gear up for the start of the 2015 spring training season. Baseball hasn’t been on the minds of many around this area for awhile because of the dreadful season that the Phillies have had, but it’s late October and the stage is set for MLB’s Fall Classic, The World Series.

This year’s matchup between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets promises to be memorable. It is the the second year in a row that the Royals have reached the World Series. They lost in 2014 to the San Francisco Giants in a thrilling game 7. The Mets are returning to The World Series for the first time since 2000, where they lost to the New York Yankees in 5 games. Although many will not be able to see their favorite team compete in this year’s World Series, die-hard fans from across the United States prepare to watch what should be a hard fought series with plenty of good hitting and pitching. Game 1 begins on Tuesday October, 27 in Kansas City.  Which team will achieve victory and capture the Commissioner’s Trophy, the World Series trophy, for the 2015 Major League Baseball season?

“You gotta believe. I can’t stop saying it, we’re going to the World Series,” Mets third baseman David Wright joyfully exclaimed. He credited his teammates and their determination to win. “This isn’t a team. This is a family. A lot of teams say that and don’t mean it. This team means it,” Wright added. Royals manager, Ned Yost, stated “Last year we were happy to be there.” He was referring to the appearance and eventual loss by the Royals in the World Series against the Giants. “This year we expected to be here,” he said without hesitation.

This will be the first time the Royals and the Mets go head-to-head in World Series competition. It is the first time that both teams in the World Series will be franchise teams, teams that started after the 1960 baseball season. It also marks the first time a World Series didn’t include at least one team that existed in 1903, the year the first ever World Series was played between the Boston Americans and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Previously, the Mets have played in four other World Series’ including 1969, 1973, 1986, and 2000. They won it all in 1969 and again in 1986. The Royals appeared in the 1980, 1985, and 2014 World Series’. They won it only once in 1985.  Both the Mets and the Royals have excellent pitching and explosive offenses. Key players that may impact the outcome for their team’s success are: David Wright, Daniel Murphy, Yoenis Cespedes and the pitching staff of the New York Mets. For the Kansas City Royals, look for Ben Zobrist, Alcides Escobar, and Eric Hosmer to make a difference. As for who’s going to be the champs of the 2015 World Series, we’ll have to watch and see.
