On Sunday, December 14th, the employees of St. Francis Hospital and their families came together to celebrate the holiday season with their annual Reindeer Ball at DuPont Country Club. Seventeen Padua Academy students, including, Elizabeth Hennessy, Melissa Strab, Mackenzie Hill, Danielle Friedman, Alexandra Roat, and all of the others, spent three hours, from 4:00-7:00pm, volunteering their time and effort to help out with the various activities.

In one of the many rooms, there was a magician, along with four face painters dressed as elves. There was also game room, which was not the most visited spot throughout the night, but always had a few kids playing Xbox or one of the various group games in it. One  big hit for the kids at the ball was a gingerbread decorating station. The children would pick a gingerbread man from one table,  followed by an assortments of candy and icing at another table. Walking throughout these rooms, along with the main ballroom and a small dance room for the kids, were characters such as Scooby Doo, Elsa and Anna, Iron Man, and Captain America. Santa , men on stilts,  and unicycles were also located in the main ballroom of the ball.

At about 6 o’clock, the kids began watching a ballet performance of the Nutcracker with awe, while their parents ate dinner. Throughout the night there was also a silent auction in the lobby of DuPont Country Club. With gifts ranging from tiny Christmas trees to a large spa day, there was sure to be something to fit everyone’s taste. Danielle Friedman, a volunteer and Padua freshman said, “My favorite part was seeing the smile on the kid’s faces after meeting Santa, decorating gingerbread men, and getting their faces painted to put them in the holiday spirit.” As a whole, the night was great fun for all of the attendees and volunteers!
