Spending My 18th Birthday in Quarantine

This past Friday, April 3rd, was my 18th birthday. I would’ve never imagined these interesting circumstances that we are in, or that I would be celebrating my birthday in quarantine.

It was a little weird not being able to see my friends and other family members in person, but I found ways to adjust. I had an online school in the morning which was nice to see some of my friends and teachers. Later in the day, a few friends and family members did a little “drive by” my house as a cool surprise for me. I ate tons of cake and had a “zoom party” with some family and friends at night. So, even though I couldn’t spend my special day in person with the people closest to me, I still got to celebrate with them virtually thanks to technology.

My sister gave me a super creative gift. She compiled a video of a bunch of my friends and family saying happy birthday. It was really special being able to see all of the people I love most, and that video is something that I will hold onto forever.

Although it was not ideal, I still had a great birthday. I’ve learned through this whole process that quarantine “is what you make of it”. It’s difficult not to get down in the dumps but we have to remember to take the good out of a bad situation. My birthday this year was a day filled with fun (as much as you can have in quarantine) and love, and it is definitely a birthday I will never forget.
