Zest for Clothing Design: Gabby M.
May 19, 2017
At Padua, students discover their talents and pursue them throughout all four years. Junior Gabby M, has a passion for clothing design and textiles and has been interested in sewing since sixth grade. “I started sewing in sixth grade at age 12, and I always heard that my grandmothers sewed and after I saw different things they made, I became interested”. Gabby says that she took her first sewing class at a small shop in her hometown, Swedesboro. “I would go every Friday in the summer and continue to learn new skills and complete different projects”, says Gabby.
Textiles was offered at Padua until this year, due to the retirement of the design teacher, Mrs. Denest. Throughout her textiles experience at Padua, Gabby describes that she has definitely had her struggles with the art, saying that a pair of dress pants was the hardest thing she has had to make, due to putting in a fly zipper. But Gabby says even though she has a passion for textiles, she doesn’t plan to pursue it as a career. “I hope to complete college and become an Audiologist. After college, I’d like to join the Navy as an officer and practice Audiology for sailors and people in less fortunate places”, says Gabby.
