Donald Trump was elected president in November 2016, taking office in January 2017. He ran as a Republican, but has created fissures in the party. With his background in business, Trump’s decision to enter the world of politics without prior experience shocked many. Despite his lack of political expertise, he currently sits in one of the most powerful positions in the world. Since election, he has pushed legislation such as limiting immigration in a widely criticized travel ban, attempted to roll back the Affordable Care Act, and appointed a conservative judge, Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. Suspicion has arisen in regards to his ties with Russia and their role in the election, and further questions have gathered in response to his harsh and potentially inflammatory speeches, particularly those directed towards North Korea.
