Pi Week

Pi Week is celebrated each year at Padua Academy. This year it was celebrated during the week of March 10. Activities set up by the math department were held in the math lab to celebrate the week. These activities also counted as extra credit points if completed. This was an enjoyable way for students to participate in the celebration of pi week and to earn easy extra credit points.

Worksheets and different activities that incorporated the mathematical “pi” theme were completed each day during the week. Students calculated pi by measuring the circumference and diameter of different sized circles and dividing them. There was a scavenger hunt throughout the school to find the number of items represented by the first 20 digits of pi. A video on PATV called “American Pi” was also played one day during the week. “I always enjoy pi week because there are always activities to do and it is a fun, easy way to earn extra credit points,” says sophomore Julia H. Students used this opportunity to learn more about pi in an amusing and engaging way.
