On November 15, 2012, the junior class celebrated ring mass at St. Anthony’s Church. The mass was to celebrate the junior class becoming upperclasswomen, which includes getting their class rings. The celebration was a full mass and then the distribution of rings. During the mass, seven juniors were selected to participate. Junior Sarah Lott started the mass with an opening speech. Then Junior Alex Roberts said the first reading and Junior Sarah Granda said the second reading. Junior Jamie Montgomery said the petitions and Junior Leanne Harkins told us about the others gift that were being presented such as the maroon sweater, the class picture, and the class ring. After the Eucharist, the distribution of rings began. The girls went up four at time to receive their rings. If a girl’s mother is a Padua alum, both mother and daughter went to the front together, with the mother distributing the ring. After the girls receive their rings, they also receive a fully bloomed yellow rose to symbolize the growth of the junior class and how far they have come during their time at Padua. Finally Junior Jen Fiscella said a prayer to Mary and Abigail Hidalgo said a prayer to bless the alumni.
The celebration ended with a reception in the Padua’s cafe. Here the girls were able to get pictures with everyone and show off their rings. There are two kinds of rings, the miniature one or medium size ring, and they came in either silver or gold. The junior class and their families were also able to relax and have something to eat while they talked. There were many pictures being taken around the cafe and everyone was excited. Ring mass will always be something that the Padua students hold close to their hearts.
