On Wednesday, November 28, 2012, Mrs. Slater, Padua’s Shakespeare teacher, invited St. Peter Cathedral School to “Shakespeare in the City,” an outreach program incorporating the four-H principles of youth leading youth. “Shakespeare in the City” gives elementary school students a chance to dress up, learn lines, and perform an abbreviated Shakespeare play. St. Peter Cathedral School and St. Anthony of Padua were among the schools that have been invited so far this year. Shakespeare students get the chance to work with younger children and to use their leadership skills. Alumnae Nicollette Sonsini (‘08) is the fourth grade teacher at St. Peter’s and was delighted to visit Padua. Sophomore Anna Smith said, “The kids were so great and funny. I think it’s such a special opportunity for them to be able to come here and participate in all the wonderful activities Mrs. Slater has for them. They had so much fun and were constantly laughing!” “Shakespeare in the City” was a huge success and will continue throughout the school year.
