From Uruguay to the United States

Several weeks ago, a group of students flew from Uruguay to spend ten days in the United States as a part of the Salesian Partnership School in Uruguay. For Padua, this was a special group of students because it was the students’ first delegation from Uruguay. Of this group, four girls had the opportunity to live with Padua students. They came to school with their host students and were able to experience different aspects of American culture.

The girls began attending classes and were able to go through several days of a Padua high school schedule. During their stay, the girls also got to visit Washington D.C. with their host students. This was a special trip for the pairs of students to experience together. Junior Hannah D., who hosted a Uruguay student, said that both she and her student enjoyed going to D.C because it was a great time for them to bond together. In the nation’s capital, the Uruguay students got a glimpse of the different aspects of America.

The entire experience was an exciting and new one for both sets of students involved in it.  “The experience was interesting,” Hannah mentioned. “Communicating was sometimes a little bit hard, but it was interesting to learn about a new culture,” she commented. The students in this program were grateful for their experiences. Overall, both the hosts and the hosted students learned a lot about different cultures and had a great time while doing it.
