“SalsThon 2014!”

SalsThon+2014%21

Last weekend on Saturday March 29th Sallies held their second annual SalsThon, which just like last year, was a huge success. Sallies, Padua, and Ursuline all team up for this huge event to raise all money possible!  SalsThon is an all night dance party starting at 9 pm and going to 5 am Sunday morning with mass to follow. This dance benefits children’s cancer and every single cent of the proceeds gets donated to local hospitals for children, it really is a great cause! Students came from far and near to help raise money and show their support. Many girls from Padua and Ursuline Academy attended, as well as many other private schools in Delaware.

Even though the dance itself cost $20 to get in, or $25 at the door, the fundraising did not stop there! All week long Sallies Student Council was out at Padua and UA to get all the spare change and dollars that they could. Also,  the local Chick Fil A was generous enough to donate a portion of the money made the Monday night before the dance. Lastly,  everybody teamed up and rallied together to get all the donations that they could and donated all they could themselves. Last year, SalsThon brought in $72,000 and so this year the goal was to raise at least $75,000. However, everybody was shocked to find out that by the end of the dance all of the schools together had raised $116,000!!

The dance was the experience of a lifetime. Having fun while supporting a great cause? It really can not get much better than that! Everybody who went had such a great time! The dance had all the water, pizza,, and Chick Fil A that there could be, so nobody went hungry or thirsty! It is always the dance of the year to be at, and everybody there had such a great time. Even though everybody goes to different school, one thing is agreed upon and that is, it’s great to come together as one body and support a great cause while having fun! Everybody loves being able to support the kids and give them hope for a brighter day to come, which is what the whole thing is really all about. According to  Padua Freshmen, Grace Olive “It was the funnest dance all year, and I can’t wait for next year.” Start collecting spare change for next year, it’ll be here soon!
