New classes offered at Padua

In the 2014-15 school year, Padua is offering new and exciting courses to adhere to the popular interests of the students. Some of the courses include Two Men Named Francis, Sports Medicine, Ethics of Science, and Introduction to Information Technology. Two Men Named Francis, taught by Mrs. Vavala and Ms. Wallen, teaches about the life and virtues of St. Francis de Sales and St. Francis of Assisi. Jordan Jones (‘16) is enrolled in Two Men Named Francis during the second semester. When asked why she took the class Jordan stated, “I was interested in our patron saints and it seemed like an interesting religion class.” She also explained she will be taking the school trip to France and Italy during the summer of 2015 and said, “I will be able to understand and appreciate the pilgrimage more after taking the course.”

Sports medicine is also a popular class many students have expressed interest in this year. This course is for students interested in fields such as athletic training, physical therapy, medicine, and nursing. An athletic trainer from ATI Physical Therapy, Ms. Repole, has come to educated the young women about the field of sports medicine. Miaya Dendy (‘15) stated, “I wanted to learn more about what happens to my body when I run,” when asked why she took this course. Maiya also explained the course so far is going well and she likes the class. Sports medicine along with the other new courses offered this year are expected to be successful and hopefully offered again next school year.
