On Friday September 26, the 2014 Student Council Installation Ceremony took place in Padua’s cafetorium. The ceremony is a tradition that takes place every year, welcoming the new members of student council into Padua. This event features the new student class officers and the new homeroom representatives. It is at this event that both the Student Council and the student body pledge their commitment to their Padua family.

The event started with a greeting from Student Body President, Isabel DiGiovani (‘15). Like all things at Padua, the ceremony had many aspects devoted to our faith. The ceremony included an opening prayer, scripture readings, and many of Padua’s favorite songs. Along with spirituality, a lot of sisterhood was shown at this event. The Student Council Pledge and Promise displayed the responsibility promised to Padua by the new student council.

The ceremony gave a chance for Padua’s community to see the new people of Student Council. One of those people was Senior Class Officer, Emily Thiemann, who was also a Class Officer junior and sophomore year. She chose to run again because she genuinely enjoys planning events for her classmates. “I enjoy planning something great that people will never forget,” she says. Emily is also aware of her responsibilities and has many goals set for this year. “I think some of the goals I would like to accomplish are really just making Senior year the best yet. If I can, at the end of the year, say I did everything I can do to make the events, like prom, the best ever, then I have pretty much accomplished my job.”

A new member of the Student Council is also a new member of Padua’s student body. Kayleen-Anne Italia (‘18) is a homeroom representative for Freshman 3. She says that the best part about being a homeroom rep is the fact that she represents Padua as a leader and receives opportunities to volunteer and show her school spirit. For future homeroom reps, Kayleen says, “Just be yourself and show your peers that you have the ability to lead and represent Padua as a fine, young leader. In addition to that, future representatives should always have something to say and not be afraid to take the extra mile to impress and earn respect from others.”
