A few teachers have not been in school lately because of their new babies. For example, Dr. Hall and Mrs. Burris both recently had children born earlier this year. They both had perfect, healthy sons. Not being in school causes a person to miss out on a lot and transferring back in after a long absence can cause a lot of stress for the teacher. Dr. Hall explained how she is keeping up with all the work: “It really reminds me of how important it is to stay organized and use my time wisely. I never let school work wait, and always start planning and projects well in advance. These were pretty much my work habits before, but they have become even more essential now that I am a wife, mother, and teacher.” Since coming back she has been getting grades in early, making things easier for her students even with the challenges of having a baby around.

When adjusting from being around a baby and coming back to teaching students of all grades, Mrs. Burris found that coming back to school was easy. She said, “Coming back to school has been great. I missed being with the girls and my colleagues. Everyone here is very understanding of my baby brain, for example, forgetting to mark grades, which is a big deal. I am very glad to work in this environment.” Students are glad to see their usual teachers back in the classroom and they are ready to start the school year right. Having a baby has not stopped Dr. Hall nor Mrs. Burris from following their lesson plans and trying to make the year a good one for everyone
