Sophomores Theresa Keefe and Shannon Murray of the Norwegian Ridgebacks with Rachel Mazzeo (not pictured) work together to write down their answer before time runs out.

Expelliarmus! On Monday, October 26th, Padua students teamed up together to compete in a Harry Potter trivia game in the library to go along with the theme for this school year. Teams like That’s So Ravenclaw, Neville Gonna Give You Up Neville Gonna Let You Down, and the Norwegian Ridgebacks worked with their teammates to quickly write down their answers before the time ran out.  Mrs. Jeffers and Ms. Keefe hosted the game and came up with the questions that were worth either one, two, or five points each, depending on the difficulty level. Student Council executive officers also pitched in and kept track of the points earned.

The final scores ended up with four teams tied for first place. One of the freshman teams, Dumbledore’s Army, made it to the final “Lightning Round” of the contest. The prizes were candy and coupons for the Café. The trivia questions were no problem for many Harry Potter fans, including freshman Tess Edwards, a self-proclaimed expert on all things related to the fictitious wizarding world. “I really enjoyed the books, and I keep re-reading them. Each time I finish the series I love it even more. It was loads of fun playing the trivia game with my friends.”

Edwards, like many other “Potterheads” at Padua, love the Harry Potter theme for the year (and some are still even expecting their acceptance letter to Hogwarts to be in the mail, even though they were supposed to receive the letter when they were eleven). Other activities for Padua students were held in honor of the popular book series like the Scavenger Hunt and Dobby’s Sock Drive. “I’m a really big fan of the books, and I think [the sock drive] is a really fun way to tie in Harry Potter with such a good cause,” Mrs. Jeffers stated.

Based on the scores from the trivia contest, it seems like Padua students really know what’s what about the famous world of witchcraft and wizardry.
