Why Homecoming isn’t the End of the World

Salesianum homecoming is coming up on October 14, 2017.

Homecoming has been all over the media lately. Pictures of posters asking someone to homecoming are everywhere and even the summer movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming mentions the dance in it’s title. Homecoming guides about how to get a date and what dress to wear are all over social media, as well.

With all of this buzz, homecoming seems like a big deal.

Padua freshman, Isabella Bates said, “I don’t think finding a date to homecoming is something people should stress over. No one is going to make fun of you or be mad if you don’t go, it’s just a dance.”

People are in a panic trying to find homecoming dates at Padua. Conversations about possible dates and dresses often come up at lunch and whenever there is free time.

Homecoming comes with a long to-do list that can be a hassle. Planning what dress and shoes to wear, how to wear your makeup and hair, and also how you should act or dance a certain way could be trouble.

You’ll get sweaty from dancing and your makeup could run and your dress could get in the way and your feet will definitely hurt from the heels. Padua Freshman, Maddy Fontana, who attended St. Mark’s Homecoming, said, “Well for me, I was stressed out about finding shoes the right color, ones that matched my dress, and looked good but I ended up taking them off like half an hour after I got there.”

Homecoming isn’t a bad thing, it just seems like a lot of people glorify it to the point that everyone is pressured to go.

Homecoming isn’t a major thing that will decide the rest of your high school career, it’s a  dance that is fun if you attend, but not the end of the world if you don’t. So go if you want to, but don’t be devastated if you don’t.
