A Walmart Scandal
Whether it’s for grocery shopping, needing a pharmacy like Canadian pharmacy online for medication, or simply just wanting to run to a Red Box for a movie, Wal-Mart has run smaller “mom and pop” stores out of business and become the world’s largest discount retailer for it’s multi-faceted abilities. Recently though, one Wal-Mart has come to the public attention, proving itself to not be as promising as the rest.
At the Wal-Mart in Muncie of Eastern Indiana, a male employee was found working a meth lab inside of one of the store’s restroom. Another employee of the Wal-Mart said that he saw this man enter the restroom with a backpack near midnight one night, but then walk out without it. The restroom was immediately closed down after that co-employee brought this scandal to the state police, who had their meth suppression team remove the dangerous chemicals they found in the bathroom. Inspectors from The Delaware County Health Department also closed another nearby women’s restroom along with this one, and they will both remain closed until they can be “decontaminated” by a professional cleaning company. “People who make methamphetamine are leaving the deadly explosive chemicals in public places to return later to get the finished product, rather than risking explosions and contamination at their own homes,” the State Police commented.
“Wal-Mart tends to hire people who are more desperate for jobs and might not necessarily have the best backgrounds,” says senior Becca Brown. “This doesn’t really surprise me.” “This doesn’t surprise me either, agrees Claire Conway (‘15). “I think Wal-Mart has a sketchy reputation sometimes. Since the sales are so low, really anyone can come in and buy from there. It’s a relaxed place, so they’re not as strict with who comes in and out of it.”
Although this case is something that doesn’t sit well with Wal-Mart shoppers, it is definitely not a common occurrence amongst Wal-Marts in our nation and should not be of worry to them. The Wal-Mart hiring process might need a few adjustments when it comes to background checking though!
